She is the first in series of Maersk's E-class giants along with her 7 sisters. Her container carrying capacity was initially declared as 11500 TEU, even that was the biggest at that time. But after appearance in 2009 of MSC's new designed ships such as MSC Danit with 14000 TEU, Maersk re-declared Emma's capacity to more than 15000 TEU. Thus, she was the largest container ship in the world since 2006 till 2012 when CMA CGM Marco Polo with capacity of 16020 TEU was launched. But even now it's not obvious that Marco Polo is bigger than Emma by the matter of container capacity. Everything hinges on a way of capacity calculation: is it maximum capacity including even empty containers, or homogenized 14 tonn containers. Anyway Maersk's E-class is the real piece of shipbuilding artwork. Probably they are the last series of huge container ships built on Maersk's home shipyard Odense Shipyard. As newer orders fall on South Korea shipyards.
