She was built as Selandia in 1972. Then aquired by US Navy as comercial transport and lenghtened at 1984 at Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard. Then she was converted to a US Navy Vehicle Roll-on/Roll-off Ship at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Cpmpany in a contract dated 23 May 1997.
