July 7, 2012 the ship was en route from Qingdao (China) to Korsakov (Sakhaline Island, Russia), 90 miles south of Vladivostok when a pipe in the engine room was broken, causing a significant flooding. The ship was loading with cement and other products.
Nearby was the mv "Vasily Golovnin", owned by FESCO, which rescued 8 of the 16 crew members of the mv "Star".
Rescue operation was organized from Vladivostok MRCC, with assistance of the rescue ship "Lazurit". The rescue team could save the ship, which was towed to Nakhodka port. But was not returned to operation.
